Course Overview
This special course continues with the use of concepts developed in Dan Margulis’s “Colour Correction in Adobe Photoshop” course, which is a prerequisite for this session. The objective is still the same: to acquire the best possible colour and detail on the printed page. Principles taught in the basic course are extended and certain specialized subjects are covered in greater detail, however special effects will not be covered. The schedule and format also remains the same: three long days of hands-on exercises interspersed with demonstrations and discussions.
The curriculum was restructured in 1999. Therefore, anyone who attended the course prior to 1999 would benefit from retaking the course, as there is very little overlap of content.
Course Content
- More intense use of channel blending
- More advanced sharpening techniques
- Study of the means of conversion to CMYK
- More use of LAB or variants
- Images with fleshtones that are blown out or too dark
- Critical details of highlights and/or shadows in images
- Images that look great in RGB, but horrible when converted to CMYK
- Converting colour images to black and white
About the Instructor: Dan Margulis, a veteran prepress manager, is author of the classic guide to colour correction, “Professional Photoshop”, and of “Professional Photoshop 6”, which is distributed to each student in the class. His column, “Makeready”, focusing on production issues, appears in Electronic Publishing magazine.
